First we said “Hello” to the Lynx crew as they prepared to head out for the parade. Captain Jamie and seaman Dennis are seen in the first photo with marketing manager Ed Woodyward and Lynx creator Woodson Woods. We took off from Badger’s Island, Kittery, zipped under Memorial Bridge and waited for a good long while as the Lynx and HMS Bountry made their way to the mouth of the harbor where the parade began.Read More & See Photos

ADVANCE Program

SML Associate Director Jessica Bolker has been awarded project support from UNH through its award from the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE program. ADVANCE aims to increase participation and advancement of women in science and engineering careers. Jessica plans to devote more time to SML next year as a way to integrate SML into new curricula in the life sciences at UNH. Congratulations to Jessica!


Gulf Oil Leak

Earth Day 2010 will be remembered for the explosion and fire on the Transocean Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, from which 11 workers are missing and presumed dead.

One week later, the resulting oil leak now seems certain to become one of the greatest ecological catastrophes in United States history.

RIFS Interns

Two of our 2009 RIFS class of interns have just won prestigious fellowships.

Grace Ha, RIFS intern of Robin Hadlock Seeley, has been awarded a Fulbright fellowship to study harvest sustainability of traditional fisheries in Korea.

Matt Savoca, RIFS intern of David Bonter and Julie Ellis, has received an NSF fellowship for graduate study at UC Davis.

Congratulations to Grace and Matt! We are proud that you were both once SML interns!
