Have some fun as a Working Intern

workinginterns | 4:46 pm | June 26, 2008 | Photos

In addition to taking a course at SML, I highly recommend taking a few weeks to earn some extra money as a working intern. We spend our days building trails, weed whacking, helping out in the kitchen, painting the buildings, driving the tractors or smaller boats, and helping with other odd jobs. Working 8 hours a day (when your commute to work is only a 1 minute walk) also allows for lots of time to explore the island, play volleyball, learn to salsa dance, watch movies, play music, or just lie in the hammock. We’ve also had the chance to help some of the research interns with their projects, visit neighboring islands, observe a dolphin dissection, and more. It’s pretty much the best summer job ever.

The summer is on….!

What a treat to leave the 97 F temperatures on the mainland last week and feel the 70 F air at sea once the Kingsbury left the dock headed for Appledore! It was wonderful to see the Animal Social Behavior students presenting the results of their projects, see the FMS’ers at a Willy lecture, sit in on an evening music session with Ben, Kipp and Maira trying out new tunes on the fiddle and banjo, and come back from Smuttynose with thousands of artifacts from the 19th, 18th and 17th century.
